The Novel of My Road to Event Planning…
Melody Walker Rodgers, Owner & Lead Event Designer/Planner
Design just runs in my veins… from a small child, I remember saving up my money to redecorate my room and always having a book of clipped magazine photos of what look I wanted to do the next time!
I was fortunate that my mother loved interior design/crafting & my father taught me how to hold my own with a drill, staple gun, and basic tools- little did I know that all those young years of self-teaching and DIY projects would continue to grow into my career.
A University of Kentucky graduate, I was headed out of state to get my MBA when a part-time internship in an event company turned into a full-time reality….thanks to my college boyfriend, Kyle—{aka my husband of 12 years} bringing me in to face paint all those years ago!} I was able to combine my background in marketing & finance with the creative outlet event design provided to start managing and designing events of my own.
I worked as a full-time Event Planner/Designer for over 11 years, gaining more hands-on experience and valuable relationships along the way than I could ever imagine. In February of 2015, the opportunity arose for us to purchase the former event company and as the ink dried on the papers, Refined Social Events & Productions was born. My husband, Kyle, and I still work together after all these years, and we are very fortunate to have such a strong, talented team of employees that allow our plans to become our clients’ realities.
There are so many things that provide me with creative inspiration & a fresh perspective. Traveling is definitely my guilty pleasure- whether breathing in the sea air, enjoying an African Safari, or exploring the historic streets of small town USA, I find so much inspiration for my events from my surroundings and own life experiences.
I am always eager to take on new challenges and constantly looking forward to my new clients that want to take their events to the next level. Providing guests with an inspired experience is my personal philosophy and I feel truly blessed to love what I do.
